Police Back at Oak Beach Searching For Clues

Suffolk investigators are heading into day three of the current search effort at Oak Beach for clues in the missing person case of Shannan Gilbert.

Suffolk Police are once again at Oak Beach this morning, searching the marshland where 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert went missing in May, 2010.

Published reports state police have recovered items during Tuesday's full day search of the area but police will not confirm those reports and have stated only that no human remains have been found during the most recent search effort.

Gilbert was last seen fleeing from a home in Oak Beach after an escort appointment. A search for her back in December, 2010 led to the discovery of 10 sets of human remains this year, and police believe those victims are the work of one serial killer whom they believe is a Long Island male.

Last week Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer stated that the theory now is that the two cases are not related given the different scenarios and that it's possible Gilbert's body is in the beach area where she was last seen.

Police have searched 90 points of interest along Ocean Parkway, between Robert Moses Causeway and the Jones Beach water tower, as well as spots on Wantagh Parkway and Bay Parkway searching for clues in the serial killer case.
