The sun, dozens of lacrosse players and parents and game enthusiasts filled the fields at St. John’s University in Oakdale on October 2 to support the annual LAX for Hope event. The girls lacrosse tournament, which drew players from all over Long Island, had 48 teams participating. Proceeds support Breast Cancer Coalitions of Long Island and was started by Christine Smith, a cancer survivor.
LAX for Hope was established, to obtain the resources to help with funding for non-profit organizations dedicated to helping our Long Island women, according to the group’s mission statement. Smith also runs Beauty for a Cure that helps obtain resources for non-profit organizations dedicated to helping Long Island women.
