Community Corner

Valentine's Day Footwear Drive

Helping Hands in West
Islip, Inc. is collecting new and slightly-used footwear of all sizes (shoes,
sneakers, boots, slippers, socks) and Valentine goodies on February 6, 2013
before 9:30AM (cannot be later) for distribution to children and
adults at homeless shelters and community centers such as Gerald Ryan Outreach,
Faith House of Prayer and Headstarts (please remember that these items will be gifts,
so please no pieces you might put in the supermarket drop box).

We all know that kids (and adults) need shoes, socks and
slippers but it’s the Valentines cards, candy and other tokens that light up
their faces, so please tie the shoes with a red ribbon or put them in a clean
box (decorated if you’d like) and attach a small toy or treat, homemade
Valentine card or snack (this is a good time for students needing community
service hours to bake, craft or fill goody bags with some holiday fun, even
costume jewelry and hotel sample personal care items).  Even if you do not have footwear to give you
can still donate Valentine goodies!
