Preview: Babylon Tuna Club's Annual Snapper Derby

Kids of all ages are invited to the Babylon Docks this Saturday to try their hand at fishing – for free!

The Babylon Tuna Club will be hosting their annual Snapper Derby this Saturday, August 25th at 9:00 a.m. at the Babylon Village Docks.

The annual children's contest has been "going on forever," said Tuna Club Chairman Mary Adams. "It's really one of our best events we host. One of the reasons we love living here."

Children aged 12 years or younger are invited to come and fish starting at 9:00 a.m. where fishing rods, tackle and bait will be available for all to use. Children are not allowed to have their parents join them – for help or to fish – during the torunament.

Each age group will be divided up and the person who catches the biggest fish will take home an exciting prize – including a bike this year!

"We're expecting over 400 kids this year," said Adams. "It's really going to be a great time for all."

The derby also features a Pie Eating Contest for all the women in attendance.

This year's derby will be held in honor of former Tuna Club member Stevie Pace, who passed away earlier this year. Pace, according to Adams, was a big supporter and loved watching this event every year.
