Throwback Thursday: Former Babylon Grade School Annex

Old school building is now used as a storage facility for a village retailer.

The best thing about our communities is our ability to take a peak back into the past and see the visual changes our forefathers made on our the places we live.

Occasionally, we here at Patch will dig up or find some older photographs, videos and more to share with the community to do a bit of time travel into what was and, now, what is.

What many Babylon residents might not realize is just how old some of the buildings within the school district quite are. The High School, in fact, is the oldest with a large portion of the building built in 1923.

The Grade School, along with the older portion to the Elementary School, were built in the 1960's to help with expanding enrollment following a baby boom.

The Grade School, of course, wasn't finished in time for the boom, so the district had to take other measures – including holding school inside of an annex on Little East Neck Road, as shown above, from 1953 through 1954.

The building, at 235 Little East Neck Road, now belongs to Plesser's as a storage facility, warehouse and corporate office.
