West Babylon Schools' Mitten Drive Spreads the Warmth

Babylon will be a little bit warmer this winter thanks to these West Babylon students.

Elementary school students in the West Babylon School District helped keep the cold away this holiday season for those less fortunate in our communities.

The students took part in the annual Mitten Tree drive, which sees the students decorate a Christmas tree with mitten, gloves, hats and scarves that would be later donated to those in the community.

With a burst of cold air hitting our area very early this season, the drive reportedly was very successful in collecting many gloves and caps to keep our fellow Babylonians warm.

The campaign began about eight years ago when school nurse Jennifer Autera shared the idea at Tooker Avenue Elementary School.

“I saw it being done in my daughter’s school and thought it was a great way to spread warmth across the community,” she said.

Great job, kids!
