5 iPhone Apps For Spring

There's a lot of apps out there. And Apple will always tell you they have an app for this, that and the other thing. But as the days get longer, weather gets warmer and flowers start to bloom, what are the most must-have apps out there?

1. Google

Siri's a powerful tool on your phone – she can get directions, give you the weather and search for things on the iPhone and the web. One thing she is not so good at yet is simply understanding you. Google's own search app with voice search is the clear cut winner in that category, with many Siri-like abilities such as spoken results and information, giving you the forecast for your area, localized search results and even a great image search capability. It's a must-have for the person on the go this season.

2. Songza

Forget Pandora and rdio, this music player understands what you want by figuring out what you're doing at the moment. Early morning workout? It's got multiple genre stations to pick for that. Winding down lazily on a Friday afternoon? Mellow stations abound. Songza is a great companion for finding new music and mixing it in with your favorites. And the price isn't too shabby either.

3. ESPN ScoreCenter

The original iPhone app that gave you the latest in major league and college level sports is now integrated across devices, so iPad users will have no problems pulling their teams to another device. ScoreCenter is ridiculously quick at updates, especially for the spring when baseball starts, hockey and basketball hit the postseason and the NFL is drafting. It's simplified interface makes for easy use for even the most novice user.

4. Leafsnap

This app might as well be called the futuristic lifesaver. Leadsnap is quite easy to explain: snap a photo of a leaf in the app and learn all about the plant, including its uses and possible toxins. As new plants spring up this season, this is an absolute must have on your device due to its quick and 99 percent accurate results.

5. Oh, Ranger! Parkfinder

It's not hard to find a good state park here on Long Island, especially with Belmont to our north. But one road trip and a lazy day later, this app is a great companion. It becomes a virtual guide to the outdoors, finding parks near you and activities to take part in while there.
