Supporting Our Local Community

I’ve always been a big believer in supporting local businesses over chain stores – I tried to patronize Babylon Village Hardware and the sneaker store on Montauk Highway when they were around, and I try to shop and eat locally more times than not. Now that I no longer commute, and run my own business in the village, I’m a bigger advocate than ever of supporting our local enterprises.

The Long Island Press runs a couple of events that remind us to keep it local:  KIOLI (Keep It On Long Island) and Best of Long Island. Best of Long Island is strictly a popularity contest, but what the heck, you should check out the site and vote for our local businesses.  Some village businesses are regular winners, such as Fitness Incentive and Glen’s Dinette. Others are new to the voting, such as Babylon Village Deli and my own business, ThePRFreelancer. With Best of Long Island we have an opportunity to give a vote of confidence to our neighbors.  We should all go through the listings and look for Babylon enterprises to support: http://bestof.longislandpress.com/vote/.

As always, there are so many topics I want to cover, and just not enough time to post as quickly as my brain can come up with ideas. But I will try to post more often.  Thank you so much for reading my blog.
