Eileen O'Donnell Laissle, Former County Nurse, Passes Away

Former cadet nurse traveled the world and raised large family.

Eileen O'Donnell Laissle, a former nurse practitioner with the Suffolk County Department of Health, passed away on November 26.

Laissle was 88 years old.

At 18 years old, Laissle served as a Ceder Nurse in 1943. According to her family, she was a lifelong Democrat and Eleanor Roosevelt aficionado.

Laissle went back to school in her 40's to become one of the first nurse practitioners in the country and worked for 24 years in the Suffolk County Department of Health.

She traveled globally, including visiting Guam with little more than a purse and a carry-on.

She is survived by her children Bruce, JoAnn, Brian, Robert and Karen; grandchildren Julie, Tim, Max, Trisha, Kate, Sullivan, Hannah, April, Sam, Dana and Morgan; and great-grandmother to Violet.

She will be waked at Noce Funeral Home in West Babylon on Thursday, December 5 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A religious service will be held at 7 p.m.

She will be interred with her husband Charles at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale on December 6 at 10 a.m.
