Babylon Incident Report: Feb. 5 to Feb. 11

The latest in criminal activity in Babylon Village and West Babylon from the First Precinct.

The following information is taken directly from the Suffolk County Police Department's Media Incidents list regarding arrests and incidents. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges as noted.

Incidents Reported

Feb. 5

A case of harassment was reported to police after two men got into a fistfight on Deer Park Avenue at 12:40 a.m. in Babylon Village.

Feb. 6

A grand larceny was reported to police in West Babylon at 11 a.m. on Little East Neck Road.

A grand larceny was reported in Babylon Village to police at 9:15 a.m. on East Shore Road. 

Feb. 7

A robbery of auto parts from a truck was reported on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon at 7 p.m.

Police responded to a call concerning an assault on Route 109 in West Babylon at 8 p.m.

Feb. 8

Police responded to a robbery call at a home in West Babylon on Broadway Avenue at 10 a.m. The victim claimed their daughter stole their jewelery.

Feb. 10

A police officer requested backup after an intoxicated man refused to leave the train at the Babylon LIRR Station at 4:40 a.m.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
