Babylon Residents' Cars Totalled by LIPA Truck

LIPA utility truck driver was "temporarily distracted" causing major damage to Sandy victims' vehicles.

Two Babylon Village residents lost their vehicles after a LIPA truck slammed into both of them roughly two weeks ago on Little East Neck Road South.

According to News 12 Long Island, a LIPA truck driver was "temporarily distracted" and crashed the large utility vehicle into the two vehicles parked outside of a home at 376 Little East Neck Road South belonging to partners Sharon Veltre and Jennifer Powers.

The two cars were totalled by the collision, and valuables including family mementos inside of the cars were broken or destroyed during the impact.

The couple had recently moved back into their Fred Shores home nearly six months after Hurricane Sandy's storm surge forced them out.

"It's like you're almost at your tipping point, like, what else is going to happen," Powers told News 12.

"I hope I'm going to get satisfaction," Veltre told News 12. "I need to have satisfaction."

The couple told News 12 they believe the truck was driving faster than was reported to Suffolk County Police, citing the amount of damage on the two vehicles and the Stop sign less than four doors away from their home.

A representative had allegedly told the couple to expect a settlement within six months, but LIPA told News 12 a settlement would be reached within a few weeks.
