Car Accident Shuts Down Route 109 in West Babylon

At least two injured as Thanksgiving Day crash leaves one vehicle flipped onto its side.

A car accident involving at least two vehicles shut down Route 109 in West Babylon around 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, leaving one vehicle pinned on its side.

West Babylon Fire Department crews, with assistance from the Suffolk County Police Department, responded to the scene in the southbound lane just south of East Drive outside of Hassell Auto Body.

Crews found a white Kia Soul flipped over blocking the entire two-lane roadway. The vehicle appeared to have rolled several tens of feet before resting on its driver's side perpendicular to the roadway.

West Babylon Fire Department crews helped remove the driver of the Kia Soul, along with their passenger, and immediately moved them to waiting ambulances before taking the victims to the hospital.

Emergency officials on the scene said the victims did not appear to be seriously injured during the Thanksgiving Day crash.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation as of this afternoon.

Route 109 southbound (or eastbound) was shutdown between Sunrise Highway and Arnold Avenue during the extrication.
