Car Accident Victim Succumbs to Head Trauma Injuries

Copiague resident Sean Lapersonerie lost his fight to stay alive Wednesday night.

A 24-year-old man hit by a car New Year’s Eve on East Main Street succumbed to his head injuries and died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Sean Lapersonerie had suffered two strokes and undergone several surgeries following the incident that happened at 10 p.m. last Saturday evening. He was in a coma for the last few days and and while family friends were not optimistic they had remained hopeful as his condition was appearing to stabilize.

The 2005 graduate of Copiague High School is remembered as a man who served his country with honor and as a good friend.

He was a great guy, friend and an outstanding brother in arms. He will be missed,” Jay wrote on a Patch story relating the accident.

In response Lapersonerie’s mother, Marie, said her son's death was a horrible accident and that everyone involved is suffering. She received consoling words from another reader, Ariana Belfiore.

“I am so sorry for the loss of a son, a friend, a brother and above all a wonderful and bright young man,” wrote Belfiore on the Patch story. “God needed another angel by his side I guess. I pray for your suffering to be eased with the understanding that we can only have angels amoung us on earth until he is needed back in heaven. God Bless you and he is watching over us, I pray for you Mrs. Lapersonerie.”

As of press time Patch had not learned about funeral services information but will update the story as that information becomes available.
