Man Charged in West Islip Hit-And-Run

A Lindenhurst man was arrested Monday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash that seriously injured two women in West Islip.

According to Suffolk County police, 24-year-old Joseph Gervasio was driving his 2008 Acura on Union Boulevard just west of Higbie Lane on June 15 at around 2 a.m. when he crashed his car.

Gervasio allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving behind two female passengers in his car that were seriously injured.

N. Babylon Man Pleads Guility in LIRR Fraud, Faces 55 Years in Prison

A North Babylon man pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to charges related to the allegedly massive fraud scheme in which Long Island Rail Road workers claimed to be disabled upon early retirement so that they could receive disability benefits to which they were not entitled, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice. 

Steven Gagliano, a former LIRR signalman, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and health care fraud; one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board (RSB); one count of health care fraud; and one count of wire fraud. The 55-year-old faces a maximum sentence of 55 years in prison, and has agreed to make restitution to the RRB in the amount of $242,466.73.

Man Gets 5 Years For Sex With Boy

A West Hempstead man who was caught having sex in the Shoreham-Wading River woods with a teenage boy last August was sentenced on Tuesday to five years in prison.

David Boutin was indicted in front of a grand jury last September after a policeman originally searching for a stolen motorbike on a remote utility access road caught Boutin in the car with a 13-year-old boy.

Boutin was sentenced despite attempts by prosecutors to push for 10 years instead of the five granted, according to Newsday. He pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree criminal sexual act, two counts of second-degree sex abuse, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of disseminating sexually explicit material to a minor.
