Crimes Nearby: Man Facing Sexual Assault Charges

The following incidents were reported across the region during the past week.

A 60-year-old Sayville man was charged with engaging in a sexual act and sexual contact with a child under the age of 11, according to a police report.

Felipe Sanchez was arrested by Suffolk Police on June 28 and charged with two felonies, a B felony for allegedly engaging in a sexual act, an E felony for allegedly having sexual contact with an individual younger than 11, as well as a misdemeanor charge for allegedly acting in a manner endangering the welfare of a child.

Sanchez posted a $20,000 cash bond at a pre-arraignment court hearing on June 29 and is due back in court on August 28. 

A temporary order of protection barring Sanchez from contacting the victim was issued at the hearing.

Suffolk Police declined to provide specific details regarding the incidents, which took place on May 26 according to a court database, given the nature of the crime and age of victim. 

Local Man Faces Organized Crime Charges

A Deer Park man cited by law enforcement authorities as a captain in the Bonanno crime family was among eight people on Tuesday charged in state court with various crimes that included loan sharking, drug dealing and gambling, the Manhattan District Attorney said.

Nicholas Santora, 71, is facing one count of enterprise corruption, one count of second-degree grand larceny and one count of first-degree criminal usury. All charges are felonies.

According to the indictment and court filings. Santora served as captain for a Bonanno crew operating in the New York area and elsewhere from March 2010 to February 2012.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said the focus of the Bonanno crew was to make money through illegal activities that included extortion, loansharking, gambling, drug dealing and possession of firearms either for use or sale.

Man Nabbed For Leading Cops On Chase

A Brentwood man is facing a slew of charges after leading Suffolk County Police on a wild chase on early Friday morning.

Troy Farris, 26, of Brentwood, faces criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, unlawfully fleeing a police vehicle and resisting arrest after a pursuit through the area around 1 a.m. Friday, according to Newsday.

Officers said they attempted to stop Farris' car, a 2013 Chevy Cruze, on Sunrise Highway near Hubbards Path early Friday morning, but he did not stop.

Instead, police said, Farris allegedly led the officers on a chase ending after his vehicle collided with an unmarked police gang patrol unit.

Farris was arrested at the scene of the crash, near Lafayette Road and Manhattan Avenue.

Teen Accused in Mugging

A Ronkonkoma teenager is accused of taking part in a violent street mugging in Huntington Station last month.

Police say 18-year-old Nyisha Wilkerson was with other accomplices on the night of June 29 at the corner of Depot Road and Bogart Street when they allegedly approached a victim at around 11 p.m.

Cops say Wilkerson and the others knocked the victim to the ground, punched and kicked the victim, and eventually stole cash from the victim's front pocket before fleeing the scene.

Wilkerson was picked up by police a week later on July 6 at the corner of New York Avenue and Railroad Street in Huntington Station. She is being charged with 2nd-degree robbery while aided by another.
