Crimes Nearby: Police Seek Suspects In Hit-And-Run Incidents

A look at incidents reported around the region by Suffolk County Police.

Suffolk County Police are seeking to locate the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that took place earlier this month in Brentwood. 

According to police, a driver operating a Nissan Sentra was involved in a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Bergen Street and Suffolk Avenue. The incident took place on May 11 at 7:10 a.m. The driver of the Sentra fled the scene without stopping. 

A passenger in the other car involved in the incident suffered a fractured femur and was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment.  

The Nissan was described as silver with a North Carolina license plate and suffered front-end damage including a missing front bumper. The driver was described as a male, possibly Hispanic, with dark skin and dark hair. His vehicle was last seen fleeing north on Bergen Street.   

• Driver Sought In Shirley Incident 

Suffolk Police are also looking to identify and locate the vehicle and driver involved in a hit-and-run crash in Shirley that injured a teenager. 

According to police, a 14-year-old boy was crossing William Floyd Parkway at Roberts Road on his bike at approximately 10:30 a.m. on May 11 when he was struck by a silver minivan. The driver, a black man, got out of the vehicle briefly before fleeing the scene. The teen was treated at Stony Brook University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.   

• Police Seeking Suspects In Several Robberies   

Police are seeking a serveral men who they said committed robberies against victims who happen to be Hispanic in Patchogue, East Patchogue, Medford and North Bellport

Police said that on three separate occasions between April 27 and May 14, Hispanic men on foot were all robbed and assaulted by multiple men in Patchogue and East Patchogue.

The first incident on April 27 at 2:30 a.m., a man was assaulted and robbed of his cell phone and hat by three black men, one of who was armed with a gun, police said. The next night, another man walking on Grove Avenue in East Patchogue at 3 a.m. had his cash stolen by two black men and a white man in a gray car, police said.   

Police also report that on May 14, a man walking on Bailey Avenue in East Patchogue at 11:45 p.m. was assaulted by three black men and robbed of cash, a cell phone and backpack. The men fled in a dark-colored car.

Similar incidents against Hispanic victims also have taken place in Medford and North Bellport, although detectives do not believe they are connected. Police say a man having a car problem pulled into the Walgreens parking lot at 1580 Route 112 in Medford on April 28 at 9:30 p.m., when he was approached and assaulted by two black men who stole his Nissan Maxima, cash and a cell phone. Police say the car was later recovered.

In North Bellport, a man was walking on Montauk Highway on May 5 at 1:30 a.m. when he was approached by two black men in a dark-colored SUV, struck in the head with a bottle and had cash taken from him, police said.
