Crimes Nearby: Woman Facing DWI, Child Endangerment Charges

The following incidents were reported by Suffolk County Police.

A Nesconset woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated with her twin daughters in the car, Suffolk County Police said.

A Fourth Precinct police officer observed Danielle Ferrante sitting in a parked, running 2006 Mitsubishi in the parking lot of Shop Rite, located at 335 Route 347, at 1:40 a.m. and after interviewing Ferrante determined she was intoxicated. Ferrante had her 5-year-old daughters in the car with her.

Police charged Ferrante, 31, with Driving While Intoxicated and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  The children were released to the custody of their father.

• Man Nabbed After Robbing Deli

A Central Islip man was arrested shortly after he robbed a Bellport deli at knifepoint, Suffolk County Police said.

Joseph Pittman, 34, of Central Islip is charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence. 

Police said Pittman threatened a female clerk at Bellport Deli & Grocery and demanded food. The suspect then cut himself in front of the clerk and stole several items from the counter.

Fifth Precinct officers Jeremy Fanning, Dennis Stewart, Michael Campbell and Robert Landgrover responded to the scene and confronted the suspect who was in the parking lot and attempting to flee in a vehicle. Police said the man brandished the knife and threatened to hurt himself before the officers restrained the suspect utilizing tasers.  The man was disarmed and taken into custody.

Pittman was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was treated for minor injuries.

• Police Save Overdose Victim   

Four Suffolk County Police officers saved a 17-year-old man who overdosed on heroin in Baywood Tuesday morning.

According to police, Third Precinct police officers Richard Meyer, John Pizzuto, Frank Ortiz and Christopher Germano responded to a call of an unconscious man who was bleeding from the nose. When the officers arrived, they determined that the man had overdosed on heroin.

Pizzuto administered a dose of intranasal Narcan and the man regained consciousness. The victim was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore by Brentwood Legion Ambulance.

Suffolk Police are participating in the New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the deployment of intranasal Narcan, a prescription drug used to reverse opiate overdoses. Currently the program is being used by officers in all Suffolk County Police precincts, Marine Bureau and the Emergency Service Section.

• Police Seek Jewelry Store Robbery Suspects

Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Pattern Crime Unit detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying three people who robbed a Copiague jewelry store.

According to police, two men entered Hands of Gold, located at 494 Oak St., and inquired about gold. The suspects then displayed handguns and took jewelry from behind the counter. During the robbery, a third suspect, who was wearing a mask, entered and the three suspects then exited with assorted jewelry.

The first suspect was described as Hispanic, in his mid to late 20s, 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He was clean-shaven and had short curly black hair. The second suspect was described as Hispanic, approximately 35 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and short curly black hair. The third suspect was described as Hispanic. He was wearing a leather jacket, hooded sweatshirt and a light-colored mask over his face.
