Early Morning Car Crash Leads to DWAI Charges

Accident took place at intersection of Route 231 and Montauk Highway at 1:30 a.m.

A Mastic man crashed his car into a fence at the intersection of Route 231 and Montauk Highway at 1:20 a.m. Monday and was arrested for DWAI, according to Suffolk Police.

The car hit a fence at 270 East Main Street, located just east of the Sherman Williams paint store on Montauk Highway, and no injuries were reported in the crash.

A call to Suffolk Marine, whose property is bordered with the fence, went unanswered as the boat sales and boat yard company is closed on Mondays.

Suffolk Police identified the driver as 49-year-old Robert Hynes, and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
