FBI Frustrated by Suffolk PD Not Asking for Help in Gilgo Murders

New York Post reports FBI sources upset Suffolk Police refuse help from federal investigators.

FBI agents are growing increasingly annoyed with the Suffolk County Police Department and their reluctance to use federal investigators to help in the case, according to a New York Post report.

The Post reports several attempts by the FBI to deploy units to help have been ignored by the Suffolk Police in an effort to "retain control of the high-profile case." To this point, the FBI's involvement has been limited – profiling for help and using aircraft to map the barrier island beach for further possible crime scenes or areas with evidence.

The Post also reported, though, new Suffolk Police Commisioner Edward Webber has shown more willingness to use the FBI than his predecesor, Richard Dormer.

The Gilgo Beach serial-murder case has been open since December 2010 when four bodies were found along the beachfront. Since then, ten bodies in total have been found at the beach – eight women, one man and one toddler – since the search began. More recently, the trail for the potential killer has gone cold.
