Babylon Man Killed as Car Strikes Dump Truck

Accident occurred on the Sunrise Highway service road Thursday evening.

A 28-year-old Babylon man was killed Thursday when his car struck a dump truck that had pulled over on the side of the Sunrise Highway service road in North Babylon.

Thomas Hudson was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital following the crash around 7 p.m., police said.

According to police, Alejandro Aguillar-Hernandez, of Seaford, was driving a 1988 Ford dump truck westbound on the service road, west of Route 231, when his truck was struck by a 2003 Hyundai Sonata.

Aguillar-Hernandez pulled over into the left lane and he and his passenger got out of the truck and crossed the service road to check on the driver of the Sonata, police said.

Several minutes Hudson's 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, which was also traveling westbound, struck the rear of the parked truck.

Aguillar-Hernandez, 36, and his passenger, were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
