Man Kills Himself at Cedar Beach

Police are investigating a self-inflicted gunshot death at Cedar Beach in Babylon.

A man shot himself in the head in the parking lot of Cedar Beach Thursday evening, according to the Town of Babylon public safety department.

A park ranger on routine patrol discovered a male with a self-inflicted gun shot wound at 7:30 p.m.

No further details are being provided at this time, according to public safety officials, and the investigation is continuing.

It’s the second suicide reported on the South Shore this week.

On Wednesday morning a person jumped off the western side of Nicolls Road bridge into eastbound traffic on Sunrise Highway in Bayport. Police shut down traffic for several hours during the initial investigation.

As reported on, the person was struck by two passing vehicles heading eastbound on Sunrise Highway at approximately 9 a.m. Police have not released the subject's name, age or gender, but have the subject's vehicle. No further details regarding that incident have been provided.
