Motorists will have to seek alternative routes while visitors pay their respects at the wake of Arthur Lopez, a Nassau County Police officer that was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday.
The wake will be held at the Merrick Fire Department, located at 2300 Merrick Avenue. Viewing times are Thursday from 2-4 p.m. (family only) and 7-9 p.m, and they will continue Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The procession will be held on Saturday morning.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at noon at St. Christopher's Church in Baldwin. Fellowship will follow at Mulcahy's in Wantagh.
Merrick Avenue is closed from Kirkwood Avenue to Sunrise Highway, as visitors will line up in that area. According to Nassau County Police, the closures will be in effect from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
Sources told Patch that thousands of people are expected to pay their respects.
