More Skeletal Remains Found at Gilgo Beach

Suffolk Police report additional human skeletal remains have been found in the beach area where four female bodies were discovered in late 2010.

Suffolk County Police have discovered what may be more human skeletal remains at Gilgo Beach connected to the bodies of four young women found in the area in late December of 2010.

“The homicide squad is investigating the discovery on Tuesday evening of what may be human remains, which were found east of where previous remains were found,” a Suffolk Police spokesman told Patch this morning.

In late January the police of the four women found in in December. One was identified as Amber Lynn Costello, a 27-year-old North Babylon woman last seen in early September.

Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, of Norwich, Connecticut, and Melissa Barthelemy, 24, of Erie County, New York, were also identified. In late December police identified the first female remains as Megan Waterman, a missing 24-year-old Maine woman who was last seen in Hauppauge.

All four women were prostitutes who used online services, such as Craiglists, for business, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.
