N. Babylon High Student Approached by Stranger

Student walking home on Brookside Avenue is approaching by man claiming to be looking for houses for sale in the area.

A female North Babylon High School student was approached by a man in a small light blue car as she walked home from school on Brookside Avenue Thursday, according to a message on the district's website.

The man stopped and asked her if she lived in the area because he was looking for houses for sale in the area, the message says.

The man, described as white, short and middle-aged, asked the student if she was being made uncomfortable by his talking to her and when she replied “yes” he got back in his car and drove away, the message says.

The police were notified of the incident.

No one really looking for houses, would approach a young person and get out of his car. Sounds like he will try it out his story again. The student approached, allowed the conversation to go on, enough for the guy to get out of his car and go up to them. DO NOT TALK TO STRANGERS! Children of all ages need to be periodically reminded of the dangers that are out there, unfortunately. Time is critical, where quick thinking can determine your fate. Worry less about hurting some one's feelings or appearing disrespectful, and more with their personal safety. Run the other way. I am glad that nothing transpired from this incident and the student is safe but it shows that more thought and review is needed for all of our kids and grandkids about these kinds of things. Even we adults, that go about out daily errands etc, we also need to think and act quickly, when it comes to our safety. Not that we need to fear everyone, but be wise and don't be a victim.

Um this is bad at all, but are you going to have an article about the Lindy HS student who died yesterday from a heroin overdose?

The girl should have been sufficiently schooled by now on what to do. 1. Ignore him. If he persists 2. "Go away from me or I will scream for help!" If he continues 3. Run to a house yelling help! and bang on the door. No normal man is going to approach a young girl walking alone.

Tyler-I get that you might be a kid and all but please. There is a local family grieving and that's VERY private information. Have some respect.

My apologies, I thought this was on the Lindy Patch and was kinda confused to of as to why this was news there and not the recent local tragedy.
