No IDs Yet on 3 Female Gilgo Bodies

The identification of three bodies uncovered at Gilgo Beach the weekend of December 11 is still in progress.

It is now six weeks to the day since Suffolk Police discovered the remains of a female off Ocean Parkway in Gilgo Beach and three other female corpses two days later.

While one has been identified as a missing Maine woman, and another missing woman has been ruled out as one of the bodies, police have not yet released the identify of the remaining three victims.

Published reports today claim police do know the identities and are awaiting forensic evidence, expected shortly, to substantiate the information and that they plan to release the information in a few days.

Police told Patch today there is no further news than what was provided last Wednesday during a press conference on the first body identification.

“We are not making any additional comments at this time,” stated a SCPD public information officer in an email today to Patch.

During the Wednesday media event Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer and Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota stated that one body had been verified as  Megan Waterman, a Maine woman who went missing from Hauppauge last spring.

The New York medical examiner’s office currently has the remains and is handling the forensic effort. On Wednesday Dormer stated he believed the other bodies would be identified “very shortly.”

Just about a week after the bodies were discovered, police ruled out that a missing New Jersey woman, allegedly last seen in May in Oak Beach, was one of the corpses. There has been no further information regarding that missing person's case.
