One Dead in Three-Car W. Babylon Crash

A Massapequa man is dead following a three-car crash on Lamar Street in West Babylon.

A Massapequa man was killed in a three-car crash at around noon in a northern part of West Babylon.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, Lindenhurst resident Anthony Marcatante was driving a 2004 Chevy Impala southbound on Lamar Street when he attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Edison Avenue at approximately 12 p.m. The Impala struck the passenger side of a 2002 Toyota Avalon that was traveling westbound on Edison Avenue. The Avalon, driven by Massapequa resident Thomas Tighe, spun into eastbound traffic on Edison Avenue where it was then struck on the driver’s side by a 2000 Dodge Intrepid driven by Wyandanch resident Glen Saenz.

Tighe, 51, of 4 McKinley Place, Massapequa, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Marcatante, 49, was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Islip, where he was being treated for neck pain. Saenz, 25, and his passenger Marcos Portillo, 27, of Copiague, were transported to Nassau University Medical Center where they were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

All three vehicles were impounded by police for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
