Police: West Babylon Men Scammed Elderly Woman

John Mitchell and Nicholas Mitchell, along with a third man, apprehended Monday in Amityville.

Two West Babylon men were arrested and charged for allegedly scamming an elderly Amityville woman Monday afternoon, police said.

According to police, John Mitchell and Nicholas Mitchell along with Allen Mitchell of Bay Shore are each charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree, a Class E felony.

Police said the three men allegedly approached the 79-year old victim as she was returning to her home and offered to seal her blacktop driveway. As one suspect began to clear the woman’s driveway with a leaf blower, police said another suspect convinced her to have the driveway sealed with two coats.

Upon returning home the victim notified Amityville Village Police. Not long after, Amityville Police Officer Brian Smith located the suspects at Green Ave. and John St. in Amityville and placed them in custody.
