Police Recover Gilbert's ID, Phone As Oak Beach Search Efforts Continue

The search for the missing New Jersey woman will resume today at Oak Beach after items were found earlier this week.

Suffolk Police will be back at Oak Beach today searching for items and the body of Shannan Gilbert after efforts on Tuesday and Wednesday resulted in finding a pocketbook, ID, clothing, shoes and a cellphone that police say belonged to the missing 24-year-old.

During Wednesday's search effort police used special equipment to traverse the muddy and quick-sand like marshland area. The area was pumped out as well to allow searchers to examine bay bottom areas that had been underwater in previous searches during the past year.

Gilbert went missing in May, 2010 from Oak Beach and was reportedly seen running toward the beach. It was the ongoing search for her in December, 2010 that led to the discovery of 10 sets of human remains in the past year along Ocean Parkway, between Robert Moses Causeway and Jones Beach.
