Police Seeking Men in West Islip Gas Station Armed Robbery

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the men pictured above who they say robbed gas station in West Islip last month.

Police said the men entered Exxon, located at 570 Sunrise Highway, on Feb. 20 at 2 a.m. One man, who was armed with a handgun, ordered an employee to hand over cash, police said.

The employee complied with the robber's demands and the two men then fled in a vehicle described as a gray or a light blue SUV, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Can someone explain why the Suffolk County Police don't report news in a timely fashion? I understand they need to keep some factual items secret for investigative reasons. I don't understand why they report incidents two and three weeks removed from the incident.

Because it is West Islip. Everything is kept under wraps so that our property value doesn't diminish.

We did cover the robbery a few days after it occurred: http://westislip.patch.com/groups/police-and-fire/p/police-investigating-armed-robbery-at-west-islip-gas-station The photos, however, were just released. We asked SCPD's Public Information Office recently why there is often a delay of weeks in releasing Crime Stoppers photos. This was their response: "Detectives/officers generally use the Crime Stoppers alerts after they have exhausted other avenues of investigation."

New York needs to allow businesses to keep a "Joe Biden Special" on hand to defend themselves against these miscreants. Castle laws need to be strengthened to protect the victims in these situations.
