Police: Teen Arrested for Making False Bomb Threat Against W. Babylon Residence

Police say 15-year-old threatened to bomb a U.S. government building.

A 15-year-old from North Babylon was arrested Monday evening for falsely reporting a bomb threat, police said.   

Police say that on Saturday night a West Babylon resident received a phone call at their home in which the caller stated that a bomb was to be found at their residence. 

The caller, a male, also stated that a U.S. government building was to be the target of a bombing. Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section units responded to the home and verified that there were no explosive devices inside, police said. Police did not say whether there was any relationship between the caller and the West Babylon resident.

First Squad detectives, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, initiated an investigation into the origin of the call and were able to identify the caller and arrest the teen, who was not identified because of his age, police said. 

The teen will we charged with falsely reporting an incident, as a juvenile, and was released to the custody of his parents. He is scheduled to appear in Family Court at a later date.
