Police: We're Cracking Down on DWIs, BWIs
Suffolk Police intend to step up patrols focused on drunken drivers and boaters.
Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer announced an intense crackdown on boating and driving while intoxicated this Memorial Day weekend at a recent press conference at the department’s Marine Bureau marina in Great River.
Suffolk roads and waterways will see an increased police presence in the form of additional police vehicles and sobriety checkpoints at many locations throughout the police district. In addition, helicopter patrols will spot alleged DWI offenders from the air.
Suffolk Executive Steve Levy wants the public to be made aware that the county is operating on a zero-tolerance policy this weekend in regards to operating a vehicle while impaired.

"Drinking while driving or operating a boat while intoxicated will not be tolerated on Suffolk County roads and waterways," he said. "To help ensure the safety of all residents, Suffolk Police will be out in full force on the roads, by boat and in the air."
Police Commissioner Dormer made it clear that stiff penalties await whose who drink and drive this Memorial Day.

"The Suffolk County Police Department is doing everything possible to keep residents safe during the holiday weekend," Dormer said. "We will arrest anyone who is under the influence behind the wheel of a vehicle or boat."
