Slain Cop's Funeral Expected to Draw 15,000 Attendees

Services for Peter Figoski Monday at St. Joseph's R.C. Church are expected to draw thousands of colleagues from NYPD.

Babylon Village officials are warning residents that there'll be significant traffic and roadway congestion Monday morning due to the funeral services for Peter Figoski, the West Babylon father of four slain by a gunman this past Monday.

Police will be shutting down Main Street from Deer Park Avenue west to the funeral home and several side streets including South Carll Avenue starting at 8 a.m. and expect 15,000 people to attend the service that starts at 11 a.m.

"There will be major traffic and parking conerns," Mayor Ralph Scordino told Patch today. "We are encouraging visitors to circumvent the village if they need to come through the area."

A good majority of the attendees will likely be colleagues of Figoski, a 22-year veteran of the New York Police Department.

The roadway closures will last until about 2 p.m. following burial services at the North Babylon Cemetery.
