Suffolk County Police Investigating Death at West Babylon Stop & Shop

Police responded to a medical emergency at the supermarket this morning.

The Stop & Shop supermarket on Route 109 in West Babylon was closed for a few hours Tuesday morning as Suffolk County Police responded to a medical emergency that resulted in the death of a person who has yet to be identified.

According to police, EMS personnel arrived at the supermarket to treat a male in cardiac arrest from a reported fall and administered CPR.

Police said the individual died either on site or at the hospital. The incident is currently being investigated by Suffolk County Homicide detectives, although a police spokesperson said it's most likely a medical case.

Police said they are awaiting autopsy results, and Patch will update the story if further information is released.

According to authorities, police arrived at the scene at 6:04 a.m. Tuesday and the store remained closed until around 9 a.m.

A manager at the store said they had no comment on the situation.
