The Police Blotter: August 1st through August 7th

This past week of crimes includes several drug arrests, many out-of-towners and a few serious sexual charges.

The following information is taken directly from the Suffolk County Police Department's Media Incidents list regarding arrests and incidents. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges as noted.

August 1st, 2012

Robert Sylvester from Southampton was arrested in Babylon Village for Disorderly Conduct.

Andre Boyd from West Babylon was arrested in West Babylon for Trespassing.

Kadeidra Hendry from North Amityville was arrested in West Babylon for Assault 3.

August 2nd, 2012

Michelle Serino from West Babylon was arrested in West Babylon for Harassment in the Second Degree.

Diana Margolies from Dix Hills was arrested in West Babylon for Assault 3.

August 3rd, 2012

William Burke from Bay Shore was arrested in Babylon Village for Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Michael Ortiz from West Babylon was arrested in West Babylon for Criminal Contempt in the First Degree.

Pihilip Calderone from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Operator Leaves the Scene of Property Following Accident.

Deborah Blaso from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Criminal Possession of Marijuana.

Wesley Mosbacher from Hicksville was arrested in West Babylon for three counts of Rape 3.

Keri Alazaraki from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

Sean Harrigan from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.

August 4th, 2012

Hope Weber from Babylon Village was arrested in Babylon Village for Petit Larceny.

Jack Anderson from Babylon Village was arrested in Babylon Village for Unlawful Use of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.

Patricia Trupiano from Copiague was arrested in Babylon Village for Loitering and Unlawful Use of a Controlled Substance.

Samantha Dittmeier from unknown was arrested in Babylon Village for Contempt in the Second Degree.

Cody Block from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.

August 5th, 2012

Jennifer Gitten from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

India Billinger from North Amityville was arrested in West Babylon for Menacing in the Third Degree.

Ashantee Armstrong from North Amityville was arrested in West Babylon for Menacing in the Third Degree.

Wojciech Kaliszewski from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Unlawful Possesion of Marijuana.

August 6th, 2012

Frank Vertullo from Deer Park was arrested in West Babylon for Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.

August 7th, 2012

Paige Jennewein from Lindenhurst was arrested in West Babylon for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth and Seventh Degrees.

James Szewczyk from Babylon Village was arrested in West Babylon for two counts of Criminal Mischief.

Charles Barhold from Babylon Village was arrested in West Babylon for two counts of Criminal Mischief.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
