5 Things to Know: June 19

Get out and enjoy the sunny weather on this Tuesday before the end of the week's blazing temperatures arrive.

1. Tuesday will start out cloudy but those will burn off as the day goes along revealing a bright blue sky and sun all afternoon. Forecasts call for almost no chance of precipitation and highs around 73 degrees in Babylon Village. Enjoy the day – Wednesday through Friday will be extremely humid and hot!

2. Make some new friends and find your inner knitter at "" in The Village Knitter. The fun starts at noon – bring yourself and inspiration, no instructions given! Materials do not need to be purchased from the store, but would be appreciated by its owners.

3. The will hold a meeting at Babylon Town Hall starting at 3:30pm. 

4. Young adults are invited for a at the West Babylon Public Library starting at 7:00pm. Join Ms. Agnello for a discussion of Ruined by Paula Morris. Bring a friend and let us know what you think. Snacks provided.

5. It's  at The Bean in the village. Sip away on some great coffee and listen to local artists play their tunes, read poetry or perform comedy acts or bring your own guitar and rock out with the crowd. The event is, as always, free for all starting at 7:30pm.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
