A Message from Mayor Ralph Scordino

Babylon Village mayor wants "everyone to know that we are working around the clock."

Babylon Mayor Ralph Scordino has sent out a letter to village residents concerning the aftermath and relief efforts underway:

The devastation felt by Superstorm Sandy has affected all of us in Babylon Village, especially those residents, businesses, utilities, and village properties south of Montauk. It isn’t necessary to outline the type of damage that occurred. You are all very aware of the damage and that the fact that some of our residents lost everything. We were working very hard to assist our residents during the storm and Fire Department members put themselves in harms way on many occasions to rescue people and fight fires. After the storm our highway, sanitation and code enforcement departments are continuing to work feverishly to clear roads, remove trees, and move debris so utility trucks have access where necessary and protect our residents. I want everyone to know that we are working around the clock and very closely with all public utilities and governmental agencies to recover and rebuild from this unprecedented occurrence.

However, recovery can be slower than we want many times and also very frustrating. I have been uplifted, however, by the outpouring of support from community members to help their neighbors and friends during this time. Clothing and food drives have been extremely successfui and the offers of shelter and support to neighbors have been wonderful. Our places of worship and community organizations have been working overtime to help those in need. And again, I can't say enough about the work of our Fire and Highway Departments and Code Enforcement personnel during this very trying time.

I would also like to commend and extend our thanks to the First Precinct and the Town of Babylon for their assistance and coordinated efforts on our behalf. Babylon is a very strong, resilient, and close-knit community. We will recover and rebuild from this devastation and our bonds will be closer. Our hearts and helping hands go out to those residents whohave lost so much and we will be there for you. I am available to you 24/7 to assist you in any way that I can. Please feel free to call my office during business hours — 669-1212- or my home after hours — 669-0058.

Sincerely,
Ralph A. Scordino,
Mayor Babylon Village
