A Quick Peek at Some Village Codes

No village code book is as thrilling a read as a Stephen King novel, but they can offer up some interesting insights on rules that residents and storeowners must abide by.

Whether it’s community events, meetings, sports games, trivia or village sights Patch offers up five things you need to know every day of the week.

Today Patch offers up five tidbits relating to Babylon Village Code that residents might find interesting and other village notes of interest:

  1. For example, homeowners and storekeepers, and landlords/renters, can not let sidewalks be covered with ice and snow for more than two hours “after reasonable opportunity remove same.”
  2. In a similar vein, the owner, agent of occupant of any premise in the village business and commercial district shall “sweep clean the sidewalk and gutters” in front of the business premise before 10 a.m. each day except Sundays and legal holidays.
  3. Residents that may already be daydreaming about summer activities, such as crabbing for blue claws off village docks, might want to take the time now to complete the required village license application necessary for such recreational activity. The fee for residents is $5 and $50 for non-residents. Crabbing is allowed at the main dock at the end of Fire Island Avenue and other permissible locations in the village.
  4.  Also, village elections are just two months away at this point. Residents will go to the polls on March 15, 2011 to elect a mayor for the next four years as well as determine the trustee seats now held by Deborah Basile and Anthony Davida.
  5. And, if reading the village code is not enticing for winter reading, Babylon Village residents are able to access and view the village budget online.
