Babylon Village Pool Set to Reopen June 22nd

Seaside pool was among the most heavily damaged buildings in the village.

The Babylon Village Pool is tentatively set for a June 22nd reopening, the village announced on Monday morning.

The pool, which sits on a peninsula in the Great South Bay at the end of Fire Island Avenue South, was heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy's storm surge in October, suffering over $1 million worth of damage.

The pool's outer walls were punctured and a portion at the southeast corner suffered a structural collapse. The grounds' entrance suffered damages, including a completely lost payment booth and damage to several of the buildings nearby.

The retaining walls surrounding the peninsula also needed repairing after the storm surge destroyed or heavily damaged many of them.

The pool has been under repair and reconstruction for the last month, according to village trustee Anthony Davida at a recent board meeting. Costs for these repairs have already topped $1 million, but the village expected to have the pool ready by June.
