Bellone Honored with Preservation Award; Summer Concerts Start

The upcoming week marks the launch of the town summer concert series and a hometown pride campaign.

will receive the Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award at the tenth annual summer polo match and lawn party event benefiting SUNY College at Old Westbury on June 26.

The championship polo event raises monies for academic and program enhancements while also honoring advocates for open space on Long Island. This year the polo match is being provided by Meadowbrook Polo Club, the oldest club in the country.

The Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award, which was first given in 2004, honors individuals and organizations that support conservation efforts.  Two other Long Island residents will also receive honors. The Alumni Leadership Award will be given to Marie Knapp, and the Ed Wrigley Horsemanship Award will be presented to Marianne Steelman.

“We’re looking forward to honoring our tradition of commitment to the community and its preservation on beautiful open polo grounds once again,” said SUNY College at Old Westbury President Calvin O. Butts, III.

As part of the summer Toast Your Town campaign, McDonald’s is encouraging local residents to show their pride for their hometown in more than a few ways: you can post a "toast" on Twitter (tweet using the hashtag #toastyourtown and @McDNYTriState) or check in at the local using Foursquare between now and August 21.
