Former W. Babylon Repair Shop Ordered Boarded Up

Auto shop on Lindenhurst-West Babylon border was considered unsafe by town.

An old, vacant car repair shop on Wellwood Avenue and Route 109 in West Babylon was ordered to be boarded up by the Babylon Town Board at last Tuesday's meeting.

The former Russ's Auto Sales, located at 1000 Wellwood Avenue in West Babylon, was vacated within the last year, leaving the brick-and-glass building to the elements. Large windows in the front office had been shattered or broken by projectiles and many of the sliding garage door's windows had also seen damage.

Photographs provided by the Town of Babylon also showed large amounts of graffiti on the rear of the building, and more shattered windows.

A resolution unanimously passed by the board noted the unsafe condition of the building threatened the health and safety of residents ordered the building boarded up at the cost of the property owners.

The town's Department of Public Works were out days later, boarding up the vacant building and leaving it as shown.
