In a quest to stop illegal access and potentially dangerous use of prescription medicines no longer needed by residents, Sen. Phil Boyle is hosting a "shed the meds" program this weekend.
According to a press release from Boyle, 2,500 youths (ages 12
to 17) abuse a prescription pain reliever. As the
Chair of the Senate Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee, Boyle is is tring to stop teens from
using and experimenting with drugs found in medicine cabinets.
The program will take place Sat. Nov. 2 at the West Islip Fire Department, at 309 Union Boulevard, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
are invited to dispose of unwanted and unused medications. The drugs will be properly disposed of by
members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. Syringes, sharp objects and liquid medications will not be accepted.
