Help Feed the Hungry This Holiday Season

A local legislator and an island-wide organization are working together to ensure needy families enjoy a good meal this holiday season.

Suffolk County Legislator Wayne R. Horsley is sponsoring a food drive at his district office in Lindenhurst in conjunction with Island Harvest, which has delivered more than 60 million pounds of food since it was founded in 1992.

"Hunger knows no boundaries. It affects people who live and work in our community as well as children who attend our schools," Horsley stated in a press release.

"I am proud to partner with Island Harvest in their ongoing effort to stamp out hunger on Long Island. I commend the dedicated volunteers at Island Harvest who are the backbone of the organization, many of whom live in my district," said the legislator.

In light of the increased demand for food at local pantries the food drive is a bit longer this year in hopes of meeting residents' needs. Donations can be dropped off through December 17 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Good items to shop for include canned vegetables and fruits, rice, pasta, dry milk, cereal and baby foods.

Horsley's office is located at 123 N. Wellwood Ave. Lindenhurst.  For additional information call 631-854-1100.
