Leg. Horsley Assists World War II Veteran

Navy veteran was aboard the USS Missouri for the official end of the war.

Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley helped out a Babylon Town veteran in need of obtaining a Veterans Identification Card, helping to bring the process to attention of other veterans in our area.

Horsley assisted Lindenhurst resident Rocco Morabito, a distinguished World War II veteran who severed in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946, in obtaining a Veterans Identification Card from the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency.

The discount card, which can be used at businesses that participate in the program, can be acquired at the agency's Hauppague office. Veterans need to bring their DD214 and a driver's license to the office at the Dennison Building on the Third Floor.

Morabito was aboard the USS Missouri, then anchored in Tokyo Bay, as the Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed on September 2, 1945.

He was later awarded the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.
