LIRR Temporarily Cancels Some Babylon Branch Trains

Schedule changes run until August 16.

Construction tied to the Long Island Rail Road’s East Side Access project will impact rush-hour service on the Babylon Branch.

Until August 16, the LIRR will temporarily cancel the following trains:

• The 8:10 a.m. train from Freeport to Penn Station. Customers will be accommodated by the 7:37 a.m. train from Babylon, which will make added stops at Freeport (8:04 a.m.), Baldwin (8:07 a.m.) and Rockville Centre (8:10 a.m.).

• The 6:05 p.m. train from Penn Station to Wantagh. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:10 p.m. train from Penn Station to Freeport, which will be extended to make added stops at Merrick, Bellmore and Wantagh.

• The 6:33 p.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:36 p.m. train from Penn Station to Wantagh, which will be extended to make all local stops to Babylon.

According to the LIRR, the temporary schedule changes will help with the construction of a concrete track slab in the Harold Interlocking section that in the future will allow subsequent tunnel construction to proceed without impacting LIRR service.

The slab will support a westbound bypass track for Amtrak and LIRR trains that will increase capacity and reliability in this area, LIRR officials said.
