Mayor: No South of Montauk Evac Order Issued for Noreaster

However, Lindenhurst Village's state of emergency order is still in effect, says Mayor Tom Brennan.

There's been no evacuation order issued by the Village of Lindenhurst for the Noreaster hitting Long Island on Wednesday.

As the weather in Lindenhurst turns colder, the winds whip and rain has turned to wet snow as a result of new storm, Mayor Tom Brennan said earlier broadcast reports of a mandatory evacuation order were false.

But just as the Babylon Town state of emergency order is still in place, the state of emergency for the Village is still in place, the mayor said.

The Town of Babylon also echoed no evacuation order was issued, but officials said those with flood damaged homes should seek alternative shelter.

Ahead of today's storm the Red Cross shelter at Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park was closed, consolidating its shelter services at Saint Joseph's College in Patchogue.

However, today's storm caused the Red Cross to open a shelter at North Babylon High School and a pets-only shelter at the North Babylon Fire Department.

Meanwhile Islip Town has renewed its evacuation order for Category One Storm Surge Zone and the mainland of Fire Island as a result of the new storm.

The mayor also told Lindenhurst Patch on late Wednesday afternoon, LIPA's been South of Montauk today, to various houses, and the previously announced no-cost, but mandatory electrical inspections there have begun today.

"People are also starting to get their gas back there," he said.

The Village has also been providing updates for residents and Hurricane Sandy victims living South of Montauk on its website, and has begun a text messaging system to keep residents informed, asking residents to text "VOL" to 411247 to get the latest to their cell phones.

The latest updates on Tuesday and Wednesday included information about the mandatory electrical inspections announced on Tuesday by the Village, and by Babylon Town, along with other crucial Town updates.

(Other Babylon Town post-Sandy updates could be found on the Town's website here.)

The Village updates also included details for National Grid gas customers.
