Photos: Town Beaches Under Reconstruction

A local photographer grabbed some shots of the well-worn beaches being rebuilt.

The Babylon Town Beaches took quite a beating from the vicious waves of Hurricane Sandy last October, many of the beaches suffering the loss of their sane dunes.

Damage from beach to beach varied – Overlook lost a ton of sand and took some minor structure damage while Cedar Beach was inundated with water for several weeks following the storm and suffered extensive damage to the boardwalk and Beach Hut building. The Ocean Parkway, the roadway used to get to these beautiful beaches, was partially collapsed by the storm washing away its underlying sand.

Work continues around the clock at the beaches to try and get them ready for the Memorial Day weekend, traditionally seen as the opening of summer.
