Post-Blizzard Weekend Forecast: Feb. 9-10

After the big blizzard leaves, we'll get a day or two to take a breath.

The Noreaster that blew down trees and dropped a thick blanket of snow island-wide on Friday will begin to pull out of the region by midday on Saturday.

The weekend is expected to begin with snow continuing and tapering off throughout the morning on Saturday.

In its place will be clearing skies throughout the day, with gusty winds continuing - sustained 24 to 28 mph with gusts up to 48 mph.

High temperatures across the Long Island will remain in the high 20s.

Sunday will pick up where Saturday left off with sunny skies and calmer winds throughout the day.

Suffolk County will see a high of 35 degrees before a chance for rain rolls in after midnight.

The start of the work week will bring with it warmer temperatures, with high temperatures expected to be in the mid-40s.

Happy to help natty!...they actually DO have that deicer thing for driveways & walkways...Of course it costs a FORTUNE, so most places wouldn't install it anyway..but wouldn't it be LOVELY to get up, flip a switch, go take a shower, dress and by the time you were ready to go, you'd have a nice clear path to the car?...Oh yeah!!

Newsday put Huntington at 26 inches at 4 am.
Debbie c. February 9, 2013 at 04:17 pm
We got about 30 inches in Miller Place. Hope everyone is safe. I hope the plow comes through soon. We have been taking turns trying to clear the cars. We have a
little boy with autism who has epilepsy and I get very nervous when the roads aren't plowed in case of emergency.

Where can one find the official measured snowfall in each area? I've looked at several places online and TV...they never seem to show that. Farmingdale, anyone?

Pat Vecchio was completely absent for Sandy. Nemo prives he is completely ineffectual as a Town Supervisor. Not a single word coming from Smithtown government. Commack got walloped with 29 inches. Roads are treacherous. Ehere is Vecchio? ??

Long Island government is just bloated and poorly managed. It has fallen on deaf ears in BABYLON. The citizen services unit is just terrible. They just answer phones and stop your call from getting through to the offices of any supervisors to report poor service, scandel and sleeping workers.
How else do you get through to them?

How many days till summer? I miss the warmth of the sun at Gilgo beach.
Candy February 9, 2013 at 10:39 pm
They do have heating coils that can be installed under driveways & walks,my friend
did it years ago,BUT it is very costly to run. Last year Frontgate magazine sold mats that heated to place on walk ways.

Anyone know who to call to get the street plowed?
Ft, Salonga has not been plowed
Trudy Amatulli February 9, 2013 at 11:57 pm
Who do you call on the weekend? I tried the public safety and no answer
Nino February 10, 2013 at 12:14 am
You do not need to tolerate poor service nor disrespectful responses from any one working in your town hall. Always ask the name of the person you are speaking with. A first and last name is customer service friendly. Someone who only gives the first name is not appropriate and you are entitled to service. You and your neighbors should not accept mediocre service or stumbling responses. Hold your elected officials accountable just as you would a window cleaner. good luck.....

My son in law works for the NYS & they are plowing 24hrs long.....what is going on...just because we live in Suffolk....DON'T VOTE for these people when they are to be reelected.
Pat February 10, 2013 at 12:56 am
No PLOWING,No ELECTRIC!!!!
Angela Jean Richards February 10, 2013 at 02:24 am
Not one plow south of 25A in Northport. The drifts are over 5 ft. and it must be more like 36 inches in some spots. I don't understand where the town went? How are they going to get the roads clear by Monday for the schools....totally disgraceful and when you look at our tax bill, you will have a heart attack. At least this time I didn't lose powe, still keeping my fingers crossed. All the trees are bent with snow. Whatis going on?
Chandula Ali February 10, 2013 at 02:52 am
That's Huntington town hall for you, they do jack ship. Only like to give you a hard time at town hall instead of trying to help its high tax paying citizens. I'm so disgusted to live here anymore it's sad. The town is run by a bunch of overpaid idiots borderline racists if you ask me. Tired of complaining because it falls on deaf ears. That's why alot of my neighbors are moving out.
Paul February 10, 2013 at 04:38 am
Side streets in Smithtown are horrible.....the only plow I saw all day was working on a road that was already clear.
Dan February 10, 2013 at 04:46 am
I hope The Patch does some investigating reporting on this epic fail
Brookhaven needs to answer for this. I've already posted on other articles. Where are the Plows ,Sanders , anything? Not buying car stuck story Saturday 11:30 pm. Get the boys out there
Nino February 10, 2013 at 11:40 am
Whats' beyond any comprehension is those stranded motorist. Thank goodness no one died. Those roads and even major arteries are governed and managed with millions of dollars of taxpayer money. The people in charge have snowmobiles,ATV's and many more emergency equipment and machinery purchased over the years, much with 9?11 funds from Washington and alot of town governments just dropped the ball. Even with the aftermath of hurricane Sandy we heard and read ,we are ready. We are ready for what?, Nothing bit lies and unforfilled empty promises. All they are interested in is getting themselves more money in raises, getting family, friends and supporters jobs, etc. We have a store clerk now in charge of the well being of millions of people on Long Island, What a scandel.....
John Hadenough February 10, 2013 at 06:53 pm
Can you imagine if the storm didn't start with rain? We might have 4' of snow. Towns don't want full time workers anymore. Cut workers and who pockets the money? My taxes go up and yet less service. I saw contractor pick up trucks with plows, didn't do much good in18" of snow and now ice! Bring back the Old Hwy Dept. 10 wheel dump trucks and real snow plows with real Highway Dept workers.
gail turner February 10, 2013 at 09:07 pm
totally ridiculous that we have not been plowed at all during this epic snow storm...Hempstead Street in Holtsville..
