Residents, Mayor Praise Village's Plowing Job

Babylon mayor says the village rose to the occasion once again.

While other parts of Long Island had nothing but bad things and failing grades to describe their area's plowing jobs during the Feburary 8th Blizzard, Babylon Village residents had nothing praise for the Highway & Sanitation Departments.

As the blizzard beared down on Long Island and dumped over a foot of snow from Lindenhurst to Stony Brook, Babylon Village's Highway Department kept plowing the streets, turning what could have been a messy Saturday morning into an easier and safer commute.

"I have to praise our Highway Department and Sanitation," Mayor Ralph Scordino said during the village board's Feb. 12 meeting. "Compared to some of the other village, Babylon was a model for Long Island. We rose to the occassion once again."

Other residents poured out their support for the clear streets and visible blacktop on our Facebook page.

"I can only speak for myself, but I was able to get out and around by Saturday night," said Laura Tuhey-Gambino. "So a big thanks to all who worked hard right after the storm and are still working hard!"

Donna Jean thought the village did an amazing job.

"My street has been passable since Saturday morning and was down to the pavement Sunday," she wrote.

"I swear on my children's eyes I was just bragging about what an amazing job I think they did here in Babylon at work in Bohemia today," wrote Ruby Dailey. "The roads out there are still unplowed in most areas! Well done, plow guys!"

Karen Rohl said the village's job during the storm made her proud to live here.

"Babylon Village has the best and most dedicated workers on LI. I am always proud to say I live here – the services are a real 'spoiler' if you ever think of going anywhere else... Thank you for all your hard work!"
