Talk Back: Verizon FiOS in the Village

Would you switch to FiOS if it was available in Babylon Village?

Verizon is not currently offering FiOS service within Babylon Village, although it did wire the Town of Babylon several years ago. Last year, the village entered into a non-exclusive ten-year contract with Cablevision, but was unable to negotiate a deal with Cablevision's main competitor, the fiber-optic FiOS.

Verizon spokesperson John Bonomo told Patch that Verizon was not actively pursuing any new contracts with municipalities, and were focused on completing their franchise build-out agreements across Long Island and New York State. The provider is nearing their five-year-completions on many contracts, Bonomo said, which may open the door in the future for new negotiations, but he was unable to provide a timeline for when the situation may change.

Would you switch to Verizon's FiOS if it were offered in Babylon Village? Are you happy with your current service? Tell us what you think in the comments.

I would switch in a second. In fact, just last week I sent a letter to Verizon Corporate HQ inquiring. I just still don't understand how every other village within our Town has this service and we don't. I am so disappointed with Cablevision.

I would switch to FIOS in a minute; and have called Verizon on several occasions to inquire !!! So in the Village, Cablevision has a monopoly; wouldn't it be nice to have a choice?!

Totally agree with you debl!

OMG in a minute! I've been waiting for 4 years for this opportunity - Cablevision has no reason to be a decent provider right now - they have a monopoy! Let's move it forward!

We should be able to have a choice.

I would switch for sure. Much better than Cablevision.

Cablevision is unreasonably expensive. There is no need for that, we can't even negotiate with them because they know Babylon Village doesn't have Fios.

I had a chance to save $70/month for two years by switching to Fios. I cannot even negotiate with Cablevision because they know I cannot switch, whereas many of my non village neighbors have negotiated a lower price with Cablevision. Besides, I have friends & family that have Fios & the quality & packages are is so much better. I think those of us that feel our rights are being limited by the Village should band together & voice our concerns at the next Village Hall meeting. We have a right to know why the Village will not permit Fios into the Village while the Town of Babylon & surrounding communities have.

Sounds like a plan Fred.

I would love to talk to the mayor or whoever is in charge! I moved Babylon 2 months ago and cable vision is the worst thing about the move! Help it is ridiculous not to have a option! In the two months of living here we have had over ten problems with cablevison!

So with all these responses, complaints and comments is there anyway this can be forwarded to the board and/or mayor in the hopes of some action?
