Town Hosting Flag Retirement Ceremony This Saturday

Proper flag retirement ceremony will be handled by town officials and area veterans.

The Town of Babylon will host a flag retirement ceremony at Babylon Town Hall this Saturday to properly dispose of old flags with respect from our area's veterans.

The town will host the ceremony, which will include a how-to on proper disposition of our nation's most well-known symbol, starting at 10 a.m.

Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon will be on hand to help teach residents how to honor flags past their prime.

According to the town, veterans will be on hand at Town Hall to give their respects to the flags being retired before they are properly disposed of.

The event is being hosted by the town's Veterans Advisory Committee, which is overseen by Councilwoman Gordon – herself a veteran in the United States Army Reserves who has seen overseas action most recently in Afghanistan in 2012.

Any questions or for more information, residents are urged to call Councilwoman Gordon’s Office at (631) 957-3127.
